By a raise of hands how many of you are "mobile geeks"? Did you really just raise your hand? I hope not. Well, I have no shame in telling you that I am! I love all tech and all the geek that comes along with it.
Im new to the technology world of selling, less than 5 years. And while that may sound bad to some, others would say, "good means you have no bad habits". The world of mobile has changed drastically over the last few years. Ill go over a few highlights in case you have been in a cave somewhere.
The hype of the "Phablet" is at an all high. Between Apple and Samsung they have not only changed the way we look at our phones, such as how much we spend on them and how often, to what abilities we require in them.
Examples, without Samsung we would not have the size of the phones we do. Lets be honest who would have thought we would be going backwards in how big they are. Also, when was the last time you carried a camera in your pocket along with your phone? The camera in the Samsung is one of the best on the market, with a 16 megapixels back facing camera. The Samsung phablet's camera also boasts OIS, autofocus and LED flash, but lets not forget about the front-facing camera of the device to satisfy your selfie needs, the Samsung phablet with its 3.7 megapixels.
Now the iPhone 6, comes in 16GB, 64GB and 128GB on-board storage options. This time around, Apple has done away with the 32GB option.
Apple has also introduced ApplePay, a new initiative to replace the wallet. You hold your iPhone 6 to a sensor, use Touch ID to authenticate and done, the transaction is complete. The system works using NFC at supporting locations — NFC is built into every iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The iPhone 6 NFC sensor strip is at the top of the phone. Credit cards appear in your Passbook and are secured using a secure enclave in the phone.
With all of this new technology out the big topic of discussion was Wearable's, most of us wear a "FitBit" or something close to it. This device will monitor everything from how many steps you take a day to your heart rate and if you slept enough last night (which none of us do). The future of Mobile is just this. The connected person, house, car, phone, the connected life. Do you know how much longer it will be before everyone is wearing a device like this?
Some on the panels this week said the future is Wearable's. With Bluetooth technology reaching an all time high, why wouldn't it be? At this point there are approximately 35 different types of wearable's on the market currently. We will start seeing an increase in this moving forward. If you are a tennis fan you may remember Ralph Lauren's Polo shirt on the ball staff and some players. This shirt was able to monitor everything from heart beat, to calories and stress levels.
Connecting all of this technology to your life is key. Would you like your house to know when to wake you up, and the perfect time to do so? How about setting the thermostat to the perfect temp depending on your stress level, heart rate and motion in the house. Your car knowing who you are based on your finger print and setting the car up perfectly for you, no more fumbling around to fix that chair.
Out of any of the technology I saw at Mobility Live, my favorite was the connected car. ATT has partnered with several car companies to provide you as the end user with an experience like no other. The cars will be set up with their own SIM card with a plan from your carrier. The car then can give you real time news, traffic, status updates from everything your social media, and be able to provide directions to anywhere with the simplicity of a picture from your mobile device. Talk about never being able to say to you loved one your lost ever again. The system is quick, easy, and fully functionable. All you need at the touch of your fingers.
From education to health care and enterprise and beyond. This was truly an event that every person in the world of mobile should have attended. If you didn't make it this year then mark your calendar 2015. With great partners like, ATT, AirWatch, Georgia Tech, UGA, IBM, Home Depot, and of course the Metro Atlanta Chamber this event in its second year was the best in mobile for Atlanta. I can only imagine what next year will give us. See you in 2015!
