Jimmy's Mexican Steakhouse

I am so excited for this write up today! My love for meat, spice, and a good patio is know to most of you. If you don't know this about me, then please read previous posts.

Jimmy's Mexican Steakhouse is the newest of many restaurants opening in the area, and as a gringo from the area I say THANK YOU! I have been saying for a while that I would love a place with a good atmosphere, TV's for sports, good if not great food, and drink specials. Well, that is exactly what Jimmy's is.

It is named after owner, Jimmy, a retired Dekalb county police officer, he has been in the business of night clubs and restaurants for over a decade. Jimmy's is his 4th opening, but, first with this feel to it.

When you first enter the restaurant, you know what you are getting in to. From the authentic art on the walls and decor, you can see the details and love put in to this place. The bar is raised above the setting area and is amazing. Tall bar stools, draft beer, and a bar that changes colors. It is a WOW!
I sat down with Jimmy to get his story and find out why he was in Doraville with this concept. He was nice enough to give me time out of his day and share a meal with me. Jimmy said "we want to fill the void and bridge the gap of the community", that is what he is doing.

With 80 TV's, (all that had soccer on when I was there), 2 dog friendly patios, an event space, which features a buffet area and bar for tequila tastings. He has truly built an environment for all to enjoy. Some of the specials he has in place now are: Taco Tuesday with $2 tacos an $2 draft Bud Light,  Thursdays is $2 draft all day, and durning some sport events a $20 all you can eat and drink during the game. He is a supporter of Atlanta United and will have MMA fighting on as well. For the weekend warriors, there is also Friday night live music and Tequila specials, and a Sunday brunch from 11 am to 3 pm with a buffet.

Now to the best part, the food, I had the FAJITAS DE LA CASA, this plate included Ribs, Steak, Chicken, Shrimp, Sausage, rice and beans, with all the toppings you need. I also had some of the house Taco sauce, let me explain to you why you should always ask the for the Taco sauce, its AMAZING, really that is all you need to know. I took some home with me and I have had it on 2 more meals, now I am out of it and I am sad, and will need to go in just to buy it.

The ribs are tender and had a spicy bbq sauce on them, other tables around me had them as well, even 1 that came up to Jimmy and said they came in for something else and then ordered the ribs. They are that good! The steak was grilled to perfection and you could taste the wood fire.

Jimmy ordered the Grilled Blackened Chicken Sandwich, it looked great, very tender and was served with fires.

The pepper that was on the skillet as well I devoured, it was spicy and smokey, all I want in a pepper.

We finished the meal with togo boxes and a dessert. It was a large 4 inch warm brownie topped off with vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup. I am not one for sweets, but, do not pass up one of these. There is also a selection of cheesecakes and ice cream.

I am so happy this place is in my city and a few miles away from my home. I will be spending a lot of time here, so, if you want to join me on the patio for a game, let me know. I will be here for football, Atlanta United games, and MMA, drinking a frosted beverage and eating some of this amazing food.

Good Eats!

Nuevo Laredo Cantina best Mexican in town

Nothing better on a bright and sunny afternoon than a margarita on the rocks and some good company. So this week I decided to go on an adventure and check out Nuevo Laredo Cantina located at 1495 Chattahoochee Ave NW, Atlanta, GA 30318. It's a great little hidden spot in Atlanta that has some of the best Mexican food you can find!  Walked in and got a table in the main dinning   area. Where you will find decor that is Charming and funny. Lots of pictures and some great signs! Chips and fresh salsa hit the table first. The chips are warm and salsa is fresh and spicy! The server came on and took out orders. We ordered margaritas on the rocks w salt now I will tell you the drink to order is the Cadillac margarita it's big and fantastic, but it was a week day so I went with the smaller one still as tasty just smaller!  The serve them by the glass or pitcher and prices start at $6.50.  Now I will have to let you in on a secret if mine. I have a weakness for a Chili R...

Summer Shade Festival at Grant Park

I will be very honest with each of you I had no idea this festival existed and that I had missed it for 15 years!  I am so happy for social media because of it I learn about some amazing events in and around Atlanta. For starters, I follow ATL_events on twitter (you should too) this fantastic event expert shares everything from festivals to restaurant opens to so much more. I was lucky enough to see a tweet about winning VIP tickets and by doing so I RT and WON!  We picked up our tickets Saturday and went right into the VIP area. We were provided cups for our drinks, tickets to "buy" them and a band to get us in and out of the area. There was a raffle for a patio set for $2 a ticket and we bought a couple of those too.  There was a wonderful pavilion with furniture and tables, food, beer from Monday Night  and wine from 3 Parks Wine Shop . Everything was amazing, we had a great place to relax, listen to music, co...

Johnny's Hideaway Should Just Hide!

Now I will start with this...it was my boyfriends 40th birthday and he loves this place and while the server was great let me set the scene a little for you. Number 1 if you under the age of 50 you are no the demo for this place and the managers (by the way there are a couple) don't care for you then. The place is over stuffed with tables and chairs and little room to move, that have been in that bar since 1970.  You have to pay to valet and there is no other option. And they only take cash so prepare yourself for that one! Number 2 it turns out in this crap bar that wouldn't know an update if someone smacked them in the face with it. Including their food and drink options. They have a dress code yes I said it a dress code!! Now it's not posted on their web site...but there is a sign on the front door. Turns out you can't have writing on your shirt. Not a logo name brand nothing! Now I'm all for dress up on a night and had they stuck to this in all aspects I would r...
