A weekend in Blue Ridge Ga

I can tell you that it has been years since I've taken some time away for my self. Not to visit family but a true weekend away. And I was surprised this past weekend by my boyfriend to do so.

He book a cabin in Blue Ridge Ga at My Mountain cabin rentals. It was beautiful! The mountains are lovely this time of year we had a great cabin at the top of the mountain on the end of the road. It was a three story cabin with two room an open floor plan and a game room. It had two patios and a fantastic hot tub over looking the view.

We spent out first night grilling steaks and drinking cocktails on the patio. Music playing in the background and a beautiful sun set we could not have asked for more.

Saturday morning we got up early and went in to town. There is a downtown area off Main st. You can shop here and even eat and drink. Even with the rain we walked up and down from store to store shopping and enjoying the day. I bought a new leash and collar for my dog in a boutique for pets. There was so many stores another that I really loved was Wrapsody in Blue the guys that own it where funny and great full. It was full of unique items that you would love to own.

We stopped for a bite to eat and a glass of wine in The Vine. The grown up grilled cheese was perfect for a chilly day. And the have a large selection of local wines which is very nice. The staff was friendly and helpful.

After a great day walking around we cleaned up back at the cabin and went out for dinner

We had reservations at The Black Sheep
http://www.blacksheepblueridge.com. And locally owned restaurant in the area that recently went under a renovation. It's at the end of the main strip and has a great patio area for when the weather is nice and a covered patio that is well heated on a cool night. The Raw bar is outside along w a small bar to sit at. We went right in when we walked in the door no wait needed. The greeter was pleasant. We sat at the window near the street it was a nice view.

We talked to the server about the specials and some of the high lights on the menu she was very helpful.

We started with the lobster roll...it was served open face which is a first for me. And not a lot of seasoning. The lobster was tender but bland. And the bread didn't look or taste like a roll it was more like toast and with the sauce more on the bread than the lobster the bread became soggy.

I ordered the special Monk fish served w mashed sweet potatoes and topped off with lobster and shrimp and a brown butter sauce. It was again very tender but lacked any big flavor.

My date ordered the fresh ravioli stuffed with shrimp and had a cream sauce. It was tasty and you could tell it was fresh. It was the best dish of the dinner course for sure. But the plate was sloppy and portion was huge. Some may say that's a great thing but I think sometimes bigger is not always better.

To finish the night we had the Chocolate explosion. A warm dark chocolate cake served with vanilla ice cream it was very rich and creamy and the ice cream was so perfect.

The owner came by to introduce himself he head very nice and grateful for the visit     And asked us to come back and give it another try next time we are in town. I will do that for sure next time we are there. Go by and give them a chance I did get to see the steaks they looked fantastic and as well as the raw bar. Hopefully the weather will be nice so you can enjoy the patio.

On you next weekend away consider Blue Ridge Ga. It's outside Atlanta by only a couple hours and is worth it!

Kula the Revolving Sushi Bar

If I say Sushi, what would you say? YES! Is the only correct answer.  I had the pleasure of eating at the newest Sushi place in Doraville this week, called  Kula  it is an international brand, with 400 restaurants in Japan and this is the 13th revolving sushi bar in the US. They have places in California, Texas, and now Georgia.  Hosted by Davo Eda, the Public Relations Manager, he was so kind to invite me in to see the new place. He even let me bring a friend, so of course I brought my favorite lady Callie, to help me eat and take pictures.  We were introduced to Mr. Fresh, it is the plate holder for the conveyor belt, "he" holds the green plates of food and treats. There was a tutorial of how to grab the food from the belt, as well as how to order from the menu and dispose of your plates. Mr. Fresh keeps the food germ free, has a chip in it for timing and every 2 hours he lets a specialists know it is time to throw the food out. This technology helps cut dow

A relationship is like a good chili

On a cold day I love nothing more than a nice bowl of chili. Im sure most of us feel the same. I love getting fresh veggies and a great lean meat and making it myself, letting it cook most of the morning so I have something to warm my belly at night. My chili has lots of layers of flavor to it and changes depending on the products I have available to me at the market.         As I was making chili this week I was thinking about my current single status. And I started laughing...relationships and chili are very similar. Im sure I am not the only person that has thought of this, but I instantly decided this was going to be my next topic! So here we go!         My chili recipe calls for a large pot (I like a dutch oven), to start. I place it on a medium high heat and add oil. I have chopped up a larger white onion and a few cloves of garlic. I add this in and let it cook down till tender. I then add my peppers, now you can chose how hot you want your chili I personally like a spic

Goodbye to a Friend

I'm There are times in your life where it seems you are at someone's going away party. Friends get new jobs, they marry, or even leave for school. All kinds of reasons for a move. Some friends you throw a party some friends you take to a bar and some its a nice dinner. My friend Laurie is moving out of state for a new job. I wanted to give her a foodie night out so I did some research and found a new place Endive Publik House at 1468 Mecaslin St NW, Atlanta, GA 30309.  It's new opened in March and is only open Thursday thru Saturday. I recommend making reservations this place is smaller and has few seats. The menu is inventive and fresh. Some foodie plates for those of you that want to expand your palette and some go tos for those of you that would never eat 'that'. What ever that may be.  We started with a bottle of red wine a Pinot Nior recommended by our sever.  Two appetizers a Trio plate of dips with homemade chips and pickled vegetables. We also had a Fig and
